Subject to places being available in the appropriate class, pupils are admitted to the school at any point during the academic year and joining in any year group. For pupils wishing to join Lathallan Senior School we recommend joining the school in Form 5 (P7) as Lathallan pupils begin a 2 year course leading to the Common Entrance Examination in the summer of Form 6 (S1). This examination is taken by some pupils wishing to move on to other independent Scottish senior schools and by internal candidates moving up to the Lathallan Senior School as a culmination of their primary year studies.
Our website and prospectus can give you a flavour of the unique atmosphere or our school, but there is no substitute for seeing the school at first hand. Please telephone the school office to arrange a mutually convenient time. Your visit will include a meeting with the Principal of Lathallan and the opportunity to meet the Head of the Preparatory or Senior School, as appropriate. There will be the opportunity to tour the school, and meet pupils and staff as the school goes about its daily business. We recommend that you visit during term time to gain a real impression of daily life at Lathallan. You are welcome to bring your child with you or to come alone and should allow around 2 hours for your visit. If your visit coincides with lunch you are welcome to join us and take the opportunity to meet more of us in an informal setting.
There are also two informal parent evenings each year which offer the opportunity to meet with current parents, staff and pupils with light refreshments and musical and dramatic entertainment provided by pupils. Please contact the school office for details of the next event.
Following your visit you may wish your child to spend some time with us to get a real taste of school life. We recommend a “Taster Day” during which your child can spend a full school day with us in the appropriate class. Your child will be assigned a “pupil shadow” for the day who will escort him/her throughout the day. We do not hold formal entrance tests at Lathallan. However, to ensure that Lathallan would be appropriate academic environment for your child during the day, prospective pupils will be informally assessed by academic staff. For entry into Form 2 (P4) and above, this would include completing papers testing English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. A Taster Day can also be combined with an overnight stay in the boarding house.
Scholarships and means-tested bursaries are available and further information can be obtained on the Scholarships and Bursaries section of this website.
