Junior School - Science

Here in the Junior school we have our own modern Science laboratory and follow a ‘hands on’ approach to learning. Pupils are taught and tested in topics form from the disciplines of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We encourage our pupils to ask questions, investigate, observe, record, conclude and evaluate what they have done.

There is something to excite and inspire everyone from stream dipping to building electrical circuits; from using Bunsen burners to microscopes; we go on Science trips; we even do the odd dissection!

Until Junior 5 (P5) science is taught by the classroom teacher and pupils are able to make full use of our coastal location and rural environment to complement biology studies - looking in the rockpools on our private beach and “mini-beast” hunting in the grounds make early science fun.

From Junior 5 (P5) science is taught as a separate subject by specialist staff and full use is made of our science laboratories to allow the pupils to conduct their own experiments and learn how to record and interpret their results. By Junior 7 (P7) pupils work on discrete topic areas in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
